FAA Leadership Planning Fall Governance Meetings, Potential Virtual Event
The Florida Apartment Association executive committee is currently in discussion regarding the organization's fall governance meetings, which would normally take place in conjunction with the now-canceled FAA Annual Conference & Trade Show. In addition, leadership is discussing a potential virtual event in lieu of the conference. A decision will be announced by August 12.
FAA staffers have contacted all exhibiting companies and sponsors, as well as pre-registered attendees, with regard to existing funds already paid toward this year's conference.

In an effort to help the apartment industry achieve compliance with Florida's new human trafficking awareness training requirements, FAA is hosting a FREE virtual
Human Trafficking Awareness Training
on August 17 at 10:30 a.m.
This training will feature a Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) approved training curriculum from the Florida Alliance to End Human Trafficking.
All FAA members who complete this training will be eligible for a completion certificate, which can be used to confirm an employee's compliance with the new human trafficking awareness training requirements outlined in Florida law in
Section 509.096
.

The National Apartment Association is releasing several updates to the Florida Click & Lease, including language related to FAA's legislative priority to reduce emotional support animal fraud,which was accomplished with the passage of SB 1084 earlier this year. As part of its commitment
to keep members informed about issues that may affect you, your businesses, and your residents, the Florida Apartment Association is maintaining an online resource center regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Resources include:
- Executive orders issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
- FAQs, best practices, and sample letters you can use to comply with these orders.
- Information regarding new federal programs, including the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act; and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
- Local government activity in Florida related to COVID-19, such as court closures, suspensions of writs of possession, shelter-in-place orders, and curfews.
- Links to government agencies and other resources.

Earlier this month, President Trump signed S. 4116, which extends the deadline for borrowers to submit Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan applications. Under the extension, borrowers have until August 8, 2020 to submit their applications to SBA-backed lenders, a five-week bump on the original application ceiling of June 30 as established under the CARES Act.
