Nominations for FAA Officers, Hall of Fame Now Open
FAA officer nominations for the 2021-22 board year and nominations for the 2021 Hall of Fame award are now open. 

Please review the Call for Officers nomination criteria and guidelinesNominees will be interviewed by the Nominating Committee via Zoom on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Officers will be elected at the FAA annual meeting on October 13.

The Hall of Fame committee will meet prior to the FAA Annual Conference & Trade Show to select a Hall of Fame recipient. 

All nominations are due by August 2, 2021.

FAA Extends Sympathies to Family and Friends of Jan Milbrath
Jan Milbrath, FAA past president, died on June 8. Milbrath was FAA president in 1998 as well as a longtime active member and champion of the multifamily industry. She will be greatly missed.
Smoke-Free Housing
Did you know that four out of five adults in Florida prefer to live in smoke-free housing? In partnership with the state Department of Health and Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida, FAA offers resources for property owners and managers to adopt smoke-free policies. The FAA Smoke-Free Multifamily Housing Certification program helps market communities that have smoke-free policies because providing a healthy environment for your residents and employees is worth bragging about. The smoke-free certification will help your community do just that!

Local Advocacy Update: Flagler County Development Incentives, City of Ocala Fire Fees, and Charlotte County Impact Fees
Flagler County Board of County Commissioners recently adopted an ordinance that has since been amended creating a new planned affordable development section of the land development code and established incentives to increase the supply of affordable housing; In the City of Ocala, there was an unexpected fire assessment fee increase passed earlier this year on January 19, 2021, at a non-ad valorem rate of $190.77 per dwelling; Counties across the state, such as Charlotte County, are changing their impact fee schedules to comply with HB 337. FAA Wins Three Excel Awards
The Florida Apartment Association made an excellent showing in competition with national and international associations, receiving awards in three categories from Associations, Media & Publishing Network. FAA won awards in the following categories: Advocacy/Awareness Campaign (Silver), Column (Silver), and Design Excellence (Bronze). See more here.
FAA Welcomes New Local Government Affairs Manager
The Florida Apartment Association is proud to welcome Anders Hancock as the association’s local government affairs manager. In this role, Hancock will assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of local government relations efforts on behalf of FAA, the First Coast Apartment Association (FCAA), North Central Florida Apartment Association (NCFAA), Space Coast Apartment Association and the South West Florida Apartment Association (SWFAA).

Hancock graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's in political science and sociology, as well as a master's of applied American politics and policy.
Prior to joining the FAA team, Hancock obtained valuable experience working for the Amendment 2 Campaign (2018), the Florida Realtors Association, and the Florida Court Clerks and Comptrollers Association.

The FSC chair is the suppliers' liasion to FAA leadership as associates' vice president on the FAA executive committee. FSC officers hold positions on various other FAA committees as well.
