Municipal policies and historical economic and racial disparities contribute to a lack of housing affordability in Florida cities, a report commissioned by the Florida Apartment Association has found. FAA partnered with HR&A Advisors, a real estate and public policy consulting firm, to conduct the study, Drivers of Multifamily Costs and Affordability in Florida. The research focused on Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, and included an assessment of housing demand, interviews with housing developers, and evaluations of various local policies to determine the rent needed to make new apartment development viable in each metro region. The study identified key factors driving apartment rents and included recommendations for municipalities to partner with the multifamily housing industry. Read more.

The Florida Apartment Association is seeking educational session proposals for the 2021 FAA Annual Conference & Trade Show. FAA wants to provide its members with educational and innovative speaker sessions that will actively engage and inform members. As part of its commitment to keep members informed about issues that may affect you, your businesses, and your residents, the Florida Apartment Association is maintaining an online resource center regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Resources include:
  • Executive orders issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
  • FAQs, best practices, and sample letters you can use to comply with these orders.
  • Information regarding new federal programs, including the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act; and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
  • Local government activity in Florida related to COVID-19, such as court closures, suspensions of writs of possession, shelter-in-place orders, and curfews.
  • Links to government agencies and other resources.
