What's New in FAA
Registration for the 2022 FAA Legislative Conference is now open. Mark your calendars to travel to Tallahassee on February 1-2 and join your peers and friends from across the state as we team up to advocate for Florida's multifamily industry.

The annual Legislative Conference is your opportunity to make your voice heard in Tallahassee. This annual visit is extremely important, as it helps build relationships with our elected officials and promote our industry's legislative priorities.

The registration fee of $95 includes the legislative briefing and APAC reception.
Contact [email protected] if you require a paper registration form.
The Florida Apartment Association (FAA) is pleased to announce that Chip Tatum, chief executive officer of the Apartment Association of Greater Orlando (AAGO), will join FAA as executive vice president on January 3, 2022.

Following an extensive search, Tatum was selected by the FAA executive committee to replace Josh Gold, who has accepted a position as a senior vice president with NAA.
The Florida Apartment Association is asking multifamily industry professionals to propose educational sessions for the 2022 FAA Annual Conference & Trade Show. FAA wants to provide its members with educational and innovative speaker sessions that will actively engage and inform. Speakers and sessions should stimulate discussions and address topics that directly impact members and all aspects of the multifamily industry. Learn more.

Please note: This call for presentations is for FAA members only. Some restrictions apply to proposals from supplier members. Professional paid speakers and speaker agencies should email Ralph Robinson, FAA director of meetings, at [email protected].
Our continued success depends on the financial strength of APAC. Consider your APAC contribution as a form of business insurance. You are making an investment to ensure the election of candidates who will help protect our industry. Remember, your freedom to do business depends on our continued ability to advocate for your issues.

Thank you to our major investors for supporting the multifamily housing industry through their contribution to APAC.
Call for Participation: FAA Legislative Committee, APAC Board of Directors
Do you have a passion for the apartment industry and are you looking to become more involved in FAA's advocacy efforts? The Florida Apartment Association is preparing for a very busy 2022 Legislative Session and is in the process of recruiting volunteers to serve on the Legislative Committee or the Apartment Political Action Committee (APAC) Board of Directors. Email Amanda White, FAA government affairs director, at [email protected].

Please note: Volunteering to serve does not guarantee a spot on the Legislative Committee or the APAC Board of Directors. Committee and board members are ultimately appointed by the FAA president.
The National Apartment Association's annual education conference, Apartmentalize, will take place June 22-24 in San Diego. Save $100 off the early bird member rate by purchasing your registration through the FAA. More than 11,000 rental housing professionals, 550+ exhibitors, and 150+ speakers will gather to discuss solutions and explore trends within the multifamily industry. Learn more and register now.

A new Florida Apartment Association logo — only the third in the organization's 50-year history — was revealed during the opening session of the 2021 FAA Annual Conference & Trade Show. The new logo features three colors: orange to represent Florida’s premier crop, and two shades of blue, one representing the Atlantic Ocean and the other, the clear blue waters of the Gulf. The guidelines PDF includes links to download the logo in color or black and white.
FAA's HR&A Study: Tax Discounts are a Critical Tool for Solving Florida's Affordable Housing Crisis
A study commissioned by the Florida Apartment Association finds property tax discounts will increase affordable housing stock and spur economic growth across Florida.

The FAA study finds a 25% tax discount for participating housing providers in the Miami area, for example, could enable an average of 1,250 affordable apartments per year for residents earning up to 60% of the area median household income, roughly $48,840. As a result, the Miami area would see approximately 424 new jobs, $20 million in increased earnings, and $52 million in increased economic activity annually.

The FAA study provides additional evidence in support of state legislation to authorize these types of local tax discounts. For more information, read a press release here, read the study here, or visit housingopportunityforall.com
Amanda White, government affairs director for Orlando-based Florida Apartment Association, said a surge of new residents is one reason rents are going up. There are other factors too, including costs for new and existing apartment communities going up across the board. White said the Florida Apartment Association is lobbying the Florida Legislature to allow local governments to offer property tax discounts for affordable housing units.

Amid rising rents and tightening occupancy, operators see a hybrid future.

At the same time, occupancy tightened to 96.9%—also the highest seen since the 2000-2001 era.
