FAA Supports Residential Property Management Scholarship Fund
The Florida Apartment Association has contributed $25,000 to the Valencia College Residential Property Management Scholarship Fund, to benefit students who enroll in the college's new two-year degree program.
Valencia College launched the associate in science program to help Florida's multifamily industry meet the growing need for qualified property management staff. The degree program will begin at Valencia's Osceola County campus in January. Future plans call for online courses as well.
The scholarship fund can be used by students throughout the state of Florida who meet the eligibility criteria, and 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to students enrolled in the program. (Valencia's Foundation pays for administration from investment funds -- never from funds and gifts raised from donors.)
As the tourism capital of the world, Florida continues to see an increase in apartment and multifamily rental communities, as well as the need for skilled and talented managers to help oversee and manage them. Through Valencia’s A.S. degree in property management, students are trained to become highly qualified managers and other on-site personnel to help manage and operate residential rental properties.
For more information about the degree program, please visit the Valencia College website.
FAA Committees Now Accepting Volunteers
The Florida Apartment Association encourages members to serve on committees and help guide the direction of the association.
Two new committees have been added for 2018, and will meet for the first time in conjunction with the 2018 FAA Legislative Conference in Tallahassee at the end of January. The meetings will be at the Hotel Duval, 415 N. Monroe St., Tallahassee, on Tuesday, January 30.
The Editorial Advisory Committee will help determine topics for Multifamily Florida magazine and the monthly Florida APTitudes e-newsletter. It will meet at 2 p.m.
The Masters Steering Committee is open to senior multifamily executives and will help determine programming for The Masters Sessions at the FAA Annual Conference & Trade Show. It will meet at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30.
To volunteer for either committee, email Laureen Crowley, FAA director of communications at laureen@faahq.org.

Registration Open for 2018 FAA Legislative Conference; Additional Rooms Now Available
Legislation impacting the multifamily industry is filed each year and it is vitally important that you make sure the apartment industry is represented at this annual grassroots event. The legislative conference is two days packed with essential information and visits to your legislators' offices. These visits are extremely important as they help establish a rapport with elected officials and promote the legislative priorities of Florida's multifamily industry.
The host hotel, Hotel Duval, has sold out but FAA has secured a discounted group rate at Aloft Tallahassee Downtown, 200 N. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL 32301. Aloft Tallahassee Downtown is FAA’s official overflow hotel for the conference, and is 0.2 miles from the conference host hotel, approximately a four-minute walk. Aloft Tallahassee Downtown rooms are available at the discounted group rate of $259. Note: There is a parking fee of $5 per day, per vehicle.
To book your room, click here or call 866-932-6282 and mention "Florida Apartment Association" to receive the discounted group rate. The cutoff date for room reservations is Monday, January 8, 2018 or until rooms sell out.
Additional information regarding legislative priorities and "Know Before You Go" details will be emailed to you as they become available.
If you have questions, cancellations, or substitutions, email Rona Long at rona@faahq.org.
If you have any questions regarding the FAA Legislative Conference, please email Courtney Barnard, government affairs director, at courtney@faahq.org or call 407-960-2910.
