FAA launches new eLearning platform, FAA University

FAA's eLearning platform, FAA University, has officially launched!
Members can now access FAAU and take advantage of a variety of training courses including an updated and enhanced version of FAA's human trafficking awareness training and a first-of-its-kind crime prevention course to help apartment communities meet the employee training requirements for safe harbor liability protections (F.S.768.0706) established by the tort reform package (HB 837) passed during the 2023 legislative session.

Features of FAA University
- Improved Access to Training Certificate and Record of Completed Training: FAA members will be able to print a copy of training certificate(s) immediately upon completion of the course, along with a log of completed training courses.
- Single Sign-on Functionality: FAA members will have the option to use their FAA website login credentials to access the eLearning platform.
- Printable Course Resources: FAA members will have the ability to print a variety of course materials to reinforce the concepts discussed and assist with digital learning.
Courses and Pricing
- Under Florida law (F.S. 509.096), apartment communities are required to have a policy to report suspected human trafficking, display specific signage, and train employees on human trafficking awareness.
- Changes were made to Florida's human trafficking statute (SB 796) during the 2024 legislative session. Most notably, the bill revised the hotline number required on awareness signs from "National Human Trafficking Training Hotline" to "Florida Human Trafficking Hotline, 1-855-FLA-SAFE."
- The training will be updated to reflect the changes made during the 2024 session as well as best practices for compliance with state statute from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Crime Prevention & Safe Harbor Liability Protections
- During the 2023 Legislative Session, the legislature passed HB 837, which created a safe harbor in state law (F.S. 768.0706) in negligent security cases that involve a criminal act by a third party at multifamily properties that comply with certain security standards.
- The first-of-its-kind FAA training course will offer information on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, crime prevention best practices for apartment communities, and an overview of the other statutory requirements to be eligible for safe harbor liability protections under the new law.
